The snow is melting and the sun is shining. Of course, the wind is blowing, too, but we can’t have it all! The sun is making me think of beaches and beaches make me think of lighthouses. I recently found this great stamp set on clearance at Joann’s and I had to have it! I love this set! This handcrafted just because card – lighthouse was created using my new favorite die set from Spellbinders, watercolors and so many more fun crafting items.
To begin, I water colored the background with blues and purples. First, I added water all over the water color paper. Next, I used a large brush from Ranger to swipe different colors of purple and blue across the page. I immediately thought of the sky just after sunset. Then, I ran the paper through my Big Shot with the largest die from the set I mentioned above. To finish it off, I gave it a quick spritz of Shimmer Mist.
Next, I stamped a piece of white card stock with the lighthouse image from my new stamp set with Versamark Ink. Then, I used a small Ranger brush to apply PearlFX powders in different colors to the stamped Image. These powders are a bit messy if you are not careful! I brushed off the excess powder. Then, I stamped the image again over the powder with Versamark ink. Next, I applied clear embossing powder to the wet ink and set it with my heat gun.
Then, using purple and blue distress inks, I colored the sky of the image. The clear embossing powder acted as a resist keeping me from coloring over the stamped image and allowing the powder to be more stable. This technique did end up removing a little of the powder and the wonderful shimmer you get from it, but it still looks beautiful in the right light. Finally, I added this great sentiment from the same stamp set and die cut the image with the second die of the set.
I used a white card blank measuring 6 1/2″ x 5″ for the base. Then, I cut out a piece of patterned paper, leaving a 1/16″ white border. Next, I mounted the water colored background to a square piece of map paper and attached the image.
Finally, I placed the image on the right side of the card and added a burlap ribbon and button with a twine bow to the left to even out the final card. I love how all of these colors work together.
