Handcrafted Thank You Card - Dragonfly

Handcrafted Thank You Card – Dragonfly

A few of my favorite challenges inspired this handcrafted thank you card.  When I saw a challenge that was for Living Things with Wings, I knew I wanted to use this great stamp set.  The dragonfly stamp I used on this card is made up of birds.  What better stamp for a things with wings or things that fly challenge?  Then, I came across a YouTube video for using salt with water coloring and the rest is history.  Once I find the video again, I will add a link.  It is a really great technique!

The Background

To begin, I taped some water color paper down to my craft mat.  Next, I put green, teal and blue Distress Inks form Ranger onto an acrylic block.  Then, I spritz the block with water using my Mister, also from Ranger, a few times.  Next, I pressed the inked side of the block down onto some water color paper.  I used a straw to blow the really wet areas around a bit more.  Then, I sprinkled coarse salt onto the wet paper.  Finally, once the ink had dried, I brushed the salt off into the trash.  The salt absorbs some of the ink giving the background a really neat finish.

The Stamped Image

I used a stamp set that I absolutely love!  All of the images in this stamp are collages of smaller images that make up a larger shape.  It is from Inkadinkado.  This dragonfly is made up three birds.  I stamped the image using Black Staz On Ink.  Then, I used Black Onyx and White Opal Liquid Pearls in a few places to add extra dimension.  I just love how this turned out!

The Completed Card

To assemble the card, I started with a 6 1/2″ x 5″ black card blank.  Then, I taped a piece of white shimmer card stock to piece of teal patterned paper.  Next, I put a strip of green ribbon over where the two pieces meet.  Then, I cropped the image and mounted it to a piece of black card stock, attaching it to the card with Scor-Tape.  Finally, I stamped a Thank You Sentiment with Black ink.  Tell me what you think in the comments below!  I love to hear from fellow crafters.  Have you tried the salt technique before?  How?
